Airlines have been upping their game when it comes to their in-flight meal offerings. While this means passengers are served food they will actually want to eat, one new snack box concept has been created with wellbeing in mind.

The airline Monarch is trialling a new in-flight meal which contains foods to boost the immune system, reduce stress and improve energy levels. It was developed by Professor Charles Spence, from Oxford University, and chef Jozef Youssef, who used Spence’s research to create the unique menu from carefully-selected ingredients. The result? It’s safe to say this isn’t your average plane food.

Prior to take off, immunity boosting echinacea and liquorice ice cream will be served. Echinacea is often used to reduce the symptoms of coughs and colds while active ingredients in liquorice have well-established anti-inflammatory properties. The colour of the ice cream is also significant.
